well…i’m kind of glad it’s over.

for starters, i don’t mean to be necessary rude towards the author. this book just wasn’t what i like to read and there were quite a few things that made me slightly uncomfortable or i didn’t like.

the age gap. 14 and 17 (out of high school) when they had a first sexual encounter. "i’m not like other girls my age, i want this" and the fact he was turned on by a prepubescent girl (as he described three years later that a grown up briar is straight up lethal) just was weird. everything surrounding their ages was. even when she was seventeen. he described her as a "tiny little girl"

everything was about sex. not saying it wasn’t a good smut but literally almost every interaction they had lead to the two of them having sex. i felt like there was such little communication between them because of it.

and last of what i wrote was that ash was very possessive and double standards. no guy was to approach her. when she slept with one guy and he was mad about it while he most definitely slept with half the girls in his school or in his area. not something i like.

although one thing made me wonder. will or did dash and aiden (don’t know the correct spelling) have a thing? what w said at the party about a not getting it up without his best friend just made a thought wander into my mind.

i read the next books are better so i hope it’s true. this wasn’t my cup of tea and i was very happy when i finished it. didn’t feel much while reading and i am an emotional reader.

An amazing book to kick off 2023! Asher is both equally bruised and broken and this shows throughout the book, playing a huge part within the plot. There are some aspects that definitely aren't for the faint of heart, so just a warning there, but I literally devoured this book and cannot wait to see what's next in the series.

can we talk about the age differences???

14year old girl and an almost 18 guy???
He literally calls her a child and still proceeds to encourage her to get off. She even explains that lately they had moments~ of pinning that consisted of her walking around in a towel at 14 years old.
She literally says she not like other girls~~ other girls her age play with Barbie’s and like one direction…………… like miss girl. You are literally a child.

and even when she “grows up” she is literally still 17 😐

The author couldn’t have made her flash back self 16 and him 18? And fast forward until she’s 18/19??? that would have made things soooooo much more comfortable to read.

The whole plot was miscommunication, and they didn’t speak to eachother, like I understand books like this need spice, but they had absolutely no connection towards eachother.

And why did the author have a need to give everyone a redemption arc???
The mom was a terrible mom, even if she was unhappy in her marriage, she didnt raise her children, she didn’t support her children, she stood by the sidelines but at the end, she cries once and instantly is a great mom.

And Asher’s dad? he literally was abusive and at the end he is written with the excuse he loved his wife so much that’s the only reason, bc his grief was too much to be a dad that doesn’t beat his child? and just because he says oops sorry I’m dying, forgive me? Asher is like oh yeah that fine I finally found love, I understand why you beat me, neglected me so much????

And if her dad PAID to have him sent away why didn’t he just go to the school he got accepted to? Like he was planning on leaving anyways?
Why send him to another terrible family member?

Let’s also talk about the name Dashiell.

Dashiell.

seriously?

Overall, I wasted my time.
The characters had no connection to even root for them as a couple.

I am never going to read a tiktok recommendation ever again.

Enemies to lovers, pretty good. Kinda uncomfortable beginning.
He keeps leaving her though so it’s kind of gross heartbreak. <spoiler/>

smutty wattpad story full of clichés, noice

(the relief i felt when she went to the hospital and she wasn't unexpectedly pregnant says a lot about the stories i used to read)
genuinely disturbed about the scene of the 14yo protagonist grinding on the love interest but I'll settle for never knowing the guy's age at that time. so many, but like soooo many clichés. nonetheless, good spice.
