Can’t wait for the next one. The ending felt rushed, but it makes sense since it’s a duology? I enjoyed the world building, the mystery, the drama and the suspense, and having the pov of different characters.

I feel like I'm being a bit generous by giving this book a three-star review. It wasn't at all what I was expecting after reading the description. Although it's categorized as a fantasy romance, it includes themes that require a trigger warning, such as abuse.
The main reason for the three-star rating is Melissa Marr's remarkable ability to vividly depict her story. Her world-building exceeds expectations. While I did enjoy the book, it left me wanting more. I likely wouldn't have finished it if I hadn't wanted to give it a fair chance.
This review is based on an ARC from NetGalley. I'd like to thank the author, publishers, and NetGalley for the opportunity to share my honest and voluntary thoughts on this book.

I am not going to give a long review of this book. I have read a number of other reviews. In these reviews, there is an overwhelming distaste for characters meeting and instantaneously falling in love. Some have suggested that Melissa Marr should learn more about the Queer community before writing a book about that community. Melissa Marr is part of the Queer community. Does she speak for the entirety of our community? Of course not. However, as a woman married to another woman, I can unequivocally say that women can and do fall in love quickly. Sometimes, in an instance. We are often reminded that we keep the rental truck companies in business.

The premise was awesome! Taking regular ppl and inserting them into a world of magic and them not knowing what to do about it. I just wish there was more drama and action. I still have no freaking clue why the MC is the supposed “the only one who can save their witch kingdom”
