Clearly Cross is an excellent story teller. He was able to build suspense from the get go and the interactions with the daemon where solidly imaginative and well written. Unfortunately I just didn't click with the main character, Cody. For some reason I couldn't bring myself to care enough about the character to read this pretty short, only 138 pages, book in a timely manor. Although I didn't connect with this book I encourage other to give it a try.
