I really tried. I enjoyed the other books I've read of Lake's but this one is just interminable. The pacing is slow, I don't really care about love across time (never have, it sacrifices development) and good god is the heroine TSTL.

I love Keri Lake’s writing so much, and the usual dark and atmospheric settings. This was no exception, and I plowed through this book in less than a day. 

However, while the romance was beautiful and transcended time etc – was Lustina not 15 years old?!?? It made the multiple explicit spicy scenes soo weird for me. I just couldn’t think past how this was a young and sheltered teenager who was having all kinds of sex with this obsessive man. 

I also felt like it diminished Farryn’s and Jericho’s story/love. His love was for Lustina and it felt strange how he was acting towards Farryn once his memories returned, as it felt based on a person she didn’t even know or remember. Also he was going to forcibly impregnate her? What? 

Oh and this man f*cked every woman on the planet in all kinds of ways in his torture chamber, but freaked out at the thought of Farryn having been with someone else? Pfft. I’m really not a fan of the f*ckboy persona that has to be sleeping with everything with two legs that a lot of romance MMCs seem to have 😫 

Despite all of that, I still think it was a good book and will definitely read the second one straight away. I just hope it focuses more on the characters in the present and how their relationship develops. Obviously they have a rough time ahead with the literal heavens against them.
