The writing wasn’t good at all and the characters were just flat to even root for them.

I enjoyed this, though slightly less than the first one.

It is filled to the rim with action scenes. The action made this book enjoyable, it didn't have quite the same social punch as the last one. That makes sense, though. The last book set up the conflict, the questions and challenges that society needed to come to grips with. This book is the start of the revolution. Sides are being chosen and there's much less room for doubt about where you stand. In fact, Kade seems to be the only one conflicted about his part of the changes coming.

The action sections were really well pace. The sections in between developed a lot of the current story and a lot of the story to come, but those sections could really drag at times.

All in all, this is a strong entry in the series and it's no small feat to make a second novel that different from the first but still interesting and entertaining.

Good, cool ideas. I wish the author elaborated more on the potential of this technology rather than focusing on the space opera plot

4.5 Stars. Even better than the first book! This series is fantastic. YOU SHOULD GO READ IT NOW! I think my favorite parts are the updates at the end of the books providing factual "here is where we are today with this type of technology". It's kind of eerie to think about how close we might be to actually developing such tools & how they could be used and/or abused. Which might we accomplish first? Nexus or destroying ourselves with WMD or global warming? If we accomplish something like Nexus first & are able to group think on a global scale, perhaps we could actually stop both of those issues... one can dream, right? ;)

I only had one quibble with this book
SpoilerSam really should have thought to purge Nexus before she was coerced into killing Kevin

Wow, this is just ridiculously good. I haven't been this unable to put a book down in a long time. Very much looking forward to reading the next one.

There are a lot of simultaneous threads going on in this book. The author assumes you can hold on to all those threads. If you don't like that, you're going to have a hard time with this one.

All-around a very strong story. The plotting, settings, character development, scientific background, and the moral dilemmas created by that science are all powerful; the description and dialogue are great. I stayed up until past 4:00 a.m. because I kept having to read just one more chapter. Can't wait to see how the author wraps up the trilogy in Apex.

I really enjoyed Nexus and was excited to see how the story would continue in book 2. As I read Crux I was intrigued by the plot, apparently enough to plod through the clumsy writing and overlook the almost unforgivable number of typos. After I finally made it to the end, after 500 pages of frustration, I was feeling a little less enthusiastic about the plot. I have Apex sitting in front of me now and am trying to work my way through. I am still interested in the premise of the trilogy and want to see how the story ends, but the clunky writing and blatant typos are a serious distraction.
