I think this book would have been ideal for a book club discussion - I think I’d appreciate the book more if I had a space to hash out some of my thoughts in. As it is, I sped through it, have some half formed thoughts, and I’m unsure if I’ll come back to them. Beautifully written and easy to read :)

This is billed as a novel. It reads more as a collection of poetry to me though. The book is formed of a series of reflections about the colour white. At its centre is the loss of the narrators mother and the story of the death of what would have been her older sibling. She is in a new city, reflecting on erasure and home.

The writing is beautiful and there is some amazing passages here. For me, as a fiction reader, I wanted a bit more of a narrative thread though. They were times, when reading the book, where I was thinking 'Wow. This is outstanding'. They were also parts which were so fleeting and flimsy that they left no impression on the mind.
