I'm fast becoming a fan of Han Kang's work, however, this is a very basic primer of her skills. I would recommend Human Acts to truly understand the depth of her writing talents.
Composed of several thematic poems inspired by the colour "white", and the memory of her mother losing her first born child, Kang successfully brings together threads of loss, identity, and mourning. What makes the narrative strong is the connection to the place where she writes, Warsaw, Poland, where she learns about the lives lost during 1944, and how it impacts her own memories and grieving process.
Beautifully written, this collection of poems allows one to understand the feelings of loss one may have in their lifetime, allowing the reader to feel empathy for a life that never got to live, and a life that got to live in its place.
This book took me an hour to complete, challenging but translated in a very simple, accessible manner.

Another book portraying mourning and loss from the point of view of the author and a sister she has never met. Beautifully written, although I never found myself drawn to books so “poetic”. I managed to share a few chapters with my mother and cherish those words and memories we built together. Something brought up by such emotional writing and storytelling.
