“The White Book” is a poetic collection dedicated to the color white. I am very new to reading poetry, but I felt like this collection was pretty accessible to me. One thing that stood out was the author’s various descriptions of where white is found in winter. Although I am not a particular fan of winter, I enjoy the author’s description of winter through “Frost”, “Snow, and “Snowflakes”. I also enjoyed the author’s interpretation and perspective on the color white as it appears in life. The interpretation of the color white changes across cultures. In the West, white tends to be seen as a color denoting purity and clarity, whereas in "The White Book," there is a melancholy attached to the color. I have also noticed that in some cultures in the East, white can represent death, as is seen in this book. Overall, I found this to be an interesting read. Other pieces that I enjoyed from this poetic collection include “Blizzard,” “Moon,” “Incandescent bulb,” “Black writing through white paper,” and “To the stillness.”
