I thought this book was going to be a rom com, but it wasn't, and I loved that. The main character is a strong character with strong and realistic character development. The story took turns I had not anticipated. It felt reflective of the professional woman's experience in a validating and encouraging way. I truly enjoyed it!!

Rated 3.5 instead of 4 because of the rape scenes (I wish there had been a trigger warning for those), and because the author was, I felt, over the top with an anti-faith agenda.

While it is true that this is extremely common in the scientific community, I think there were opportunities for her to strike a balance. In the end, even the people of faith admitted that faith and science couldn't coexist and disavowed their faith. This felt ignorant and like a side agenda that could have been dropped or held less heavily, without losing the truth in the church traumas she gave voice to. The fact that the bishop confessed he didn't believe in God was discouraging. I think you can believe in both, truly.
