This book was great! I could barely put it down. Every time I would think the author wouldn’t be able to put all the pieces together and close loose ends, she did, and she did so well. There were a few points where the historical timeline didn’t make sense (like when Walter thought back about how he got DNA testing for Amanda - that wasn’t really done until the ‘80s…) but overall it was a good story. This is one of the few times when I enjoyed a book jumping back in time to fill in jokes in the present. It usually doesn’t work, but I thought it was perfect for this story.

But most importantly… does the dog die?
No, thank God!

This book is superb and as an audiobook the narrator was great as well. Within the first 30 minutes I felt blindsided
by the SA scene and followed an hour later where I was listening in shock on by the death scene as told by the dog.
it was then I knew that this was going to be a roller coaster of emotions but that it would be worth every moment.

Also there is zero doubt in my mind these characters are neurodiverse. The quirky descriptor feels wrong is all I’m going to say on that one.

Definitely thought this book would be a bit more like a romcom. The content warnings showed me this would not be the case so glad I looked at them.
I liked Elizabeth Zott as a character and I liked the questions she posed about marriage and religion. She seemed like she could also be on the spectrum which is nice representation to see in a book.
The story was a little slow. It kept my interest but it did take me a minute to finish the book. I really liked the authors writing style with the little vignette type stories.
I do think this will be a bit more enjoyable as a show so I’m glad I read it before the show releases.

What a delightful book. I loved the Elizabeth story line - the Calvin pages in the first half left me speed reading. But once we get past his death - the story took off for me.
1960’s - daytime television - Elizabeth Zott is a chemist who gets a job as a tv host of a chemistry based cooking show because she intimidates the producer. Not that she wanted the show - he dreamed it up after meeting her.
Elizabeth Zott - what a woman. Six-thirty - what a dog. Madeline - a bit unbelievable - but it is a novel after all.
