I like the multiple povs. I like that we get backgrounds on the characters. I actually kind of liked that we got a view of the characters threw the eyes of the church.

Wow. This book is beautiful. Hard, but beautiful. The people at the heart of this book were so real. Saving Ruby King is told from the perspective of several lead characters as well as the church where they all attend. I thought the church perspective may be weird and pull me out of the story, but it never did. As the story progresses, the reader learns more of what happened in the past and the tension ratchets up to the climax. I loved the shades of good and bad in the characters and the discussion of generational trauma, tight-knit community, and redemption. Beautifully told story

I wasn't sure if I would like this book because it centers around a church; I am not religious and I was afraid it would have a preachy subtext. I need not have worried. It was the perfect book of people being people and a great example of how generational pain is passed on. It was more than your average thriller, but it did have some great shocking moments. I highly recommend this. Trigger warnings abound!
