Not long after Darcy and the Colonel have left Rosings, they return on the death of Lady Catherine de Bourgh. Anne asks that Elizabeth stay at Rosings, as her friend, and to help her in the trying next few months.
An enjoyable variation which thankfully did not just revolve around Darcy and Elizabeth, apart from Anne de Bourgh there were tales of Kitty and Lydia.

This would be the definition of inhale reading. Coming in just under 200 pages I sat down to read this story and didn't get up until I was done a couple of hours later. The story is fast paced and an easy engaging read. I really enjoyed it.

The concept may seem odd, but many of the characters balk at Anne's request just like I did. Through the story Anne's character blooms a little more, but many of the other characters remain the same. Darcy is still awkward and Elizabeth still witty. I really enjoyed seeing them in this different situation. The romance was cute and fun to read from both sides.

At times I did think Anne was actually enlisting Elizabeth's help to play matchmaker for her and Darcy. She seemed to enjoy that role for other characters and her character seemed very strong even without Elizabeth's guidance. Maybe I was reading between the lines too much, but I felt like that was an undercurrent to the story??

While the concept is a bit far-fetched for me (that Anne would enlist Elizabeth to help manage Rosings, particularly when they've rarely spoken prior), the overall execution and story was enjoyable. I liked that Elizabeth and Darcy didn't immediately resolve their differences just by being in close proximity, even though it was obvious they were both trying. I liked that Bingley got to show some initiative. The resolution of the Wickham storyline was perhaps a bit too neat, but it did go rather differently from the original, and it was nice to see a true variation there.

Really 3.5 stars.
