I paged through this between chapters of my other reading during a lazy Saturday and then did the same the following night with my girlfriend on a lazy Sunday night.
I saw much more depth and discovered so much that is hidden on a cursory glance--and she held the book and I took it in from an oblique angle the second time, which may have been illuminating for several illustrations that seemed abstract, with human figures now appearing--and also still feeling that I could sense a story from these silent pictures of a novel I haven't read in just over 25 years.
It's honestly quite brilliant, Smith is a fascinating character, and I look forward both to seeing if the prints are still on permanent display at the Walker in Minneapolis and reading about his other adventures.

Great illustrations for a great novel. It's a shame the artist is a rapist.
