This is a book that I imagine suffers from its nasty cover. I was so hesitant to read it because, not only is the cover unappealing, but the art inside is largely serviceable at best and was not in any way inviting.

The story ended up being really enjoyable though. I have a bit of a soft spot for portal fantasy (in which the character accidentally stumbles across another world by travelling through a portal and goes on some grand adventure a la "The Secret World of Og" and "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe") and the fantasy world that our protagonist, Danny Husk, ends up in is kind of sexy and weird and cool.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this book, but I can also totally see why it hasn't been very popular.
