It took me awhile to think of a way to write this review and I guess all I can say is I did enjoy the book, but knocked it a star because my overall feeling for it is that I finished it feeling underwhelmed. Let me explain.
Call got his old selves memories back. That was something I was really looking forward to since we found out he was EoD, but in the end there was maybe a chapter or two that this even effected.
They added Gwen as a main side character, but there wasn’t much of a backstory or connection made so finding out about jasper and her was indifferent.
The “resolution” between Cecilia and Call felt forced or rushed with a random side bully who had no resolution made.
The battle with Alex felt to easy and the ending left so many questions like did they go to college, how was Alex/Arron treated afterwards.
It might be that I read the majority of this book in breaks at work or that I had to high expectations because I live for Cassandra Clare books, but I felt this book needed at least 100 more pages to make it feel full circle. Maybe there will be a continuing series? I would definitely stick with the series if that’s the case to maybe ease my feelings for the conclusion to this series.

The ending of this series really fell flat for me. The more I think about the concept and the potential this series had, I get angrier about how it was wasted. This ending to the series was disappointing especially after the fourth book which in my opinion should have been the last book in the series. It took me way longer than it should have to finish this book despite it being very short because I completely lost interest a few chapters in. The main issues with this book was the lack of plot and the characters. It seemed that the plot only moved when something would conviently happen to push the story forward. I can forgive a loose plot when the characters are interesting and enjoyable to read about, however despite having four books to get to know these characters I felt like I really didn't know them. Especially Cal, there was a huge opportunity to see Cal struggle with the dilema of having the soul of Constantine and how to resolve this but instead its mentioned a little bit and there is really no resolution. The ending of this book was the final straw everything fell into place with no accountability or thought about the ethical consequences of the choices that were being made. I was afraid that the concept of death was going to be hard to explain after the ending of the fourth book. Bringing Arron back to life and then instead of allowing him to die a heros death the authors make him come back by attaching his soul to Cal. I know this is fantasy but this really does not make sense especially since this opens up possibilities that are hard to explain. I also thought that the villian in this book was so ridiculous that it felt like there was no reason or purpose for the characters to be afraid at all. The whole concept of souls hopping bodies is disturbing but if it is well thought out this could be a very interesting topic however this book does not do it well. Overall I left the series disappointed.
Really enjoyed this one. I liked where they took it and how it resolved.
I'll be honest. When I started this series, I didn't like it a lot. Maybe I was in the wrong mood, it felt meh. But then I read the second one (I already bought them, may as well just read them) and fell in love with the series. The characters and the relationships between them. The whole magical world and every situation the characters got in, be it good or bad. I love it all.
The joined brains of Cassandra Clare and Holly Black have created an amazing story that wil sit with me for a long time and characters I will love forever. I already miss them so much and I wish there was more of this series.
For this final book, everything was on the edge. I love seeing how much the characters have grown and how they've changed from the first year in the Magisterium. I love the way things turned out even tho I'm sad about Cal's dad and I'm surprised at the solution to the Aaron situation.
Overall, I don't think I would've liked this series if I read it when I was younger. The younger me wouldn't have been able to appreciate it. But I read this series as an adult and I absolutely love it. Does it have flaws? Of course. But I don't care. I enjoyed it too much <3
