3 Stars!
The Magisterium series has honestly been such a delight to read. I wasn't sure what to expect when I first started the series, but it's penned by two brilliant authors, and it's been fun every step of the way. The only problem is that, for me, after the heartbreaking plot twist in The Bronze Key, the series lost a bit of its momentum, which I didn't mind too much in the last installment, but it really shows here.
On the upside, Aaron is back, which was great fun, but I don't think it contributed much to the story. I feel like bringing someone back from the dead (especially after the evens of The Silver Mask) should have more repercussions/discussions than it did.
As for the rest of the plot, it did feel a little bit rushed. This might be due to the size of the book, which is inevitable in some ways, but it did feel like we were hurtling towards an ending, which wasn't all that satisfying. Speaking of the ending, I think the main issue with this book is that the stakes didn't feel very high, especially in comparison to the much darker things that we faced in the previous book. The villain just didn't feel all that threatening, and the roundabout way in which he decided to approach the situation kind of felt like a way of killing time.
That's not to say that I didn't enjoy the book, however. Call is a great protagonist that is both flawed and trying his best to be better than he is. At the end of the day, that's one of the most important things for me - if I can get along with the MC, the story will be enjoyable enough, even if it's nothing groundbreaking. The addition of Aaron living in Call's head did also add a bit of fun humour to the mix, which was sorely needed after the bleakness of The Silver Mask.
Overall: a fun, if slightly underwhelming, finale with pockets of humour and plenty of heart.

Overall a satisfying conclusion, though would enjoy a sequel series

Tarina tuntui kovin pintapuoliselta, enkä nauttinut samalla tavalla tästä kuin aiemmista osista. Olen kuitenkin tyytyväinen, että sain päätösosan vihdoinkin luettua, nuorempana olisin rakastanut tätä. Taisipa tulla roska silmään viimeisten sivujen aikana...
