I have loved reading this series so much. Yes, it's very similar to Harry Potter, however it is definitely its own story with its own complexities. With all of the craziness that happened in the last few books, I was wondering how this whole thing was going to end.

Overall, I liked this book and found the ending fairly satisfying. The writing was good, the story was interesting, and it tied up most of the loose ends. While the pace of the book was very fast and new elements were introduced in a rather helter skelter manner, I think the main issue that I had with the book is that it appears Black and Clare kind of wrote themselves into a corner and had to come up with a creative solution to resolve everything. Personally, I felt that solution was out of character for certain players like Tamara and Aaron. Their ethics kind of go out the window at the end. The whole Maugris thing was cool, but was severely underdeveloped and felt like an afterthought. It gets thrown in there and then doesn't really go anywhere.

A lot happens in this book. In all honestly, it's a bit overwhelming. There was a lot to wrap up and, while Black and Clare did utilize some imaginative techniques, the chosen conclusion wasn't entirely satisfying. It left some bits out and didn't seem to completely mesh with the characters' views and ethics.

Overall, I enjoyed the book despite its flaws. This has been such a fun series to read and I'm a little bummed that it's over.

This one was definitely my favorite in the series.  It was so cool seeing all the threads come together and the characters get their conclusions.  I especially loved Call in this book.  I mean, he's great in all the books, but this one especially.  It felt like he really came into his own and understood who he is, regardless of who his soul used to belong to.  This series is an interesting take on what makes someone evil.  Are there people who are evil to their soul, or is it something else?  I also liked
Aaron in this one.  His and Call's friendship is so sweet, even when Aaron is just a voice in Call's head.  I do wish they had told Master Rufus about the whole Aaron/Alex thing though.  I feel like they could have trusted him.
Overall, this was a solid conclusion to the series.

I finished this book in two sittings. It would have been 1, but I forced myself to go to sleep at a reasonable hour. This was by far the best one in the series for me, and I honestly can’t think of any other series I’ve loved the last volume of the most! It wraps it all up in the perfect climax and resolution while delivering it in a perfect package of delightful character interactions that just make it a joy to read without stopping.

I am still astounded by how well this series dives deeply into the philosophy of good/evil in human nature And what it means to be a hero/villain. It’s extremely thought-provoking and satisfying even for an adult. It also models healthy communication among friends and feels like a realistic portrayal of internal struggles young teens deal with. This really can’t be undervalued!

I really loved it and am upset it’s over! I look forward to “re-reading” someday via audiobook (I hear the narrator is good).

Sweet ending.

I started this series when I was 15, and read the books when they came out. Idk if it was me getting older and maturing or the actual writing in the book. The mcs in this book were 16, not to far off of my 18, and older than middle grade books characters. It doesn’t bother me that this is a middle grade series, but this book in particular felt forcibly childish. Alex was such a cliché kid’s movie villain. The characters just felt so unrealistic. Like I said idk if it’s me getting older or the actual writing changed, but I read each of the books a year apart so maybe I just don’t remember how they were written. The way the characters (who were 16 and up) spoke was just so awkward, like they were trying to hard to sound young and innocent. I didn’t dislike this books by any means. Also, and I don’t remember if I noticed this in any of the other books, but there was a lot of forced diversity. It was written in to read nonchalantly, but it read so awkwardly. Like constantly making characters gay when it had never previously been mentioned or even hinted at. And the scenes with the memories and Maugris were never fully explained and concluded. I would have liked the ending to include more about it. The ending was okay. It wasn’t awful and it wasn’t amazing. I feel like it was pretty obvious they would get a happy ending. The whole Anastasia thing seemed so forced and fake, it was completely unbelievable and why everyone went along with it I don’t understand. Usually I don’t write reviews for books in series, but this was a conclusion to a series, so why not?
