3.5 rounded up mostly bc this was better than other books I've read on the same topic.
medium-paced
As an entertaining history of reality television, I enjoyed the breakdown of where it began and how it has morphed in American television.
However, I was hoping for a little more analysis on culture differences, the good and the bad, as well as from a consumer lens. It touched it a bit here and there, but not as much as I was hoping.

Really informative and some reflections. I was really fascinated up until the very end where I felt like it did kind of fizzle. I wish instead of a single chapter she had gone into more depth exploring the current reality tv landscape and the Kardashians proliferation. Maybe it was too much for one book but I defiantly felt like I wanted there to be an exploration and critique of where we are now and how the pandemic affected things and how current reality tv affected trumps re-election.
Overall though this was super informative and I definitely recommend it. The audiobook was great although I wish they had included clips of the old radio and tv clips regencies because I feel like they obviously had access to them and it would’ve made the audiobook even more fun

I’m not a massive reality TV fan, but this was still fascinating! I never thought about or knew the history/evolution of reality tv as we know it even though I lived through a lot of it without realizing.

Very well written book - the only reason I didn’t rate it higher is that I was frankly only interested in the piece about Survivor and just skimmed the rest. I understand the genre much better now, and don’t like Jeff Probst at all
