Not as interesting as I thought it would be but still interesting enough….

The first half was a bit of a slog to get through (probably because it was an in-depth look at reality tv pre- my existence). I thought the second half was a little bit more interesting and the ending tie-in to Trump riding the Apprentice to the White House notable in that as much as we all love hating the "villain" of any given reality show, we should be careful about how much of a spotlight we give that person. I found myself wanting to watch reality tv more than pick up this book - which feels kind of meta/like I missed the point but also proves that even with all of its ups and downs, the reality tv industry has us all pretty much pegged.

Really enjoyed this history of reality tv. Covered a lot of ground, a lot of which (especially everything pre-1990s) was unknown to me.
I just found myself not caring. It went really far back into radio and had a lot of minutiae. I was just bored and felt more obligated rather that intrigued to continue
as someone who truly had little knowledge of reality tv before reading this book, it seemed like a pretty in-depth exploration of the format (genre?? i’m not sure which one reality tv would be). learned a lot, but GOD the section about The Apprentice/Trump at the end was nauseating to listen to. i completely understand why it was included, but i hated listening to it

A solid exploration of what it chooses to cover, but some of the subgenres it chooses Not to cover leave it feeling a little incomplete
