Really interesting and engaging read about the history of reality TV! It doesn't shy away from its sordidness or the exploitation of participants and tv workers in the genre though, so definitely not a "fun" read

I am in awe at this work. Obviously one book can only scratch the surface of the impact of reality tv on popular culture (we never even get to Jersey Shore) but so much is covered, and it goes way further back than I expected. I was talking about this to anyone who would listen. I also made a Letterboxd list inspired by the book because I had to: https://boxd.it/FjOkS

so so good. i’ve watched survivor since i was 10 and didn’t realize that it was such a fundamental show to the reality tv genre influencing so many shows after. also this book took twice as long to read because i had to stop multiple times a chapter to youtube the specific shows / moments she was referencing. also i commend the amount of research completed for this book the bibliography was beautiful.
