Even if you weren't of the time/didn't see some (or any) of the shows discussed, this is such a well-done book that you can't put it down (or stop listening, in my audio case). Compassionate, in-depth, and interesting.

(Although I skipped the last chapter, because...I can't.)

Incredibly readable, knowledgeable, enjoyable.
informative slow-paced

If you are INTO reality tv, then this is a good read. I thought I was but I found the first 3/4 of this book so bland. The research is incredibly impressive—literally no question there—but it’s in depth on steroids. I wish more recent shows had a bigger slot and the politics/viewer reaction to shows was more embedded throughout.
