I gave this book 3 stars because I feel like a lot of it was drawn out to make it longer. Some of the main characters just disappeared throughout the book. Angela or LJ wasn't very likable. Her Mother was mean, critical, and very controlling. Her parent's relationship really bothered me, it was like they weren't even married, just roommates that fought. The ending was again drawn out, but a good twist I honestly didn't see coming.

This book made me feel like I was the one with spiders in my brain. I kept looking for ways that the ending could possibly be different from the obvious thing I thought whole way along it was going to be, and then it turned out it wasn't different at all. Like, if one thing is the obvious answer, it's got to be something else, right? But no. I felt so dissatisfied! And also carried around the feeling of general misery for having entered Angela version of the world for a few hours. I'm sure there are people who will just love this book, but I'm not one of them.

This is a very quick read. The story at the core is complicated and it leaves one possibly rooting for the wrong people. There aren't a lot of twists, but the book doesn't really need them to hold it's own. This is a solid thriller that can be read in a few hours.

well done little book. a quick read of murder, maybe? nothing is revealed until the end. i like books were the writer keeps you guessing, though in retrospect there were some subtle clues. the plot and writing are simplistic. I almost felt I was reading a YA book, but i think that's just her style

Thank you to the publisher for sending me this book in exchange fo an honest review.
This book was a quick read. I didn’t want it to end but I had to know what happened! I was on the edge of my seat. I loved the twists. Great read.

Thanks to St. Martin's Press for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

Not only do I love a great orange cover, but I love debut novels. It's always so exciting to pick up work from new authors, and let me tell you, I was not disappointed with Roz Nay's OUR LITTLE SECRET.

We begin with Angela in an interrogation room. She is cycling through different detectives and being asked the same questions over and over. Then Detective Novak takes a seat opposite her with the same question, what was her relationship with Saskia like. We are taken through her history with HP, her first love, and the transformation of their relationship, as well as his current relationship with Saskia. Is she simply missing or is this something worse?

We go through the story of HP and Angela's romance and how Saskia came into the picture. Angela slowly starts to let Detective Novak in on how she knows Saskia and we also discover how HP and Saskia came back into her life.

This is a quick read, and just under 250 pages we get just enough character and story development to keep you hooked. This is one you can easily finish in a sitting, or at least a day! While it seems like a lighter read, is is packed with dark secrets and sinister plots. You'll find yourself sucked into the story and wanting to know the answers from this potentially unreliable narrator.

I give this 5/5 stars!

My Takeaway

“The detective wants to know what happened to Saskia as if I could just skip to the ending and all would be well. But stories begin at the beginning and some secrets have to be earned”.
Our Little Secret

Our Little Secret, is twisted, unexpected and clever. Once I began reading, I did not want to put it down. The characters in this thriller are complex and at times quite eccentric (with a splash of cuckoo). The narrator and protagonist, Angela, is intelligent, a bit over the top, and obsessive — not a good combination. I agree with some readers, a few of the events are a bit farfetched, but in this case, I feel it works. I finished the book a few nights ago, yet I’m still thinking about the book’s abrupt ending. I believe it was Nay’s intention to throw me off and confuse the crap out of me (she gets extra points for it). I read this novel super-fast and I think this is the best way to capture the essence and spin of the story. This is Nay’s debut novel, but I can’t wait to read additional work from this promising new voice.

I haven’t read a book in virtually one sitting for some time, but I just couldn’t put this book down for long! I really connected with the narrator, Angela, and felt drawn to her story and felt happiness, dismay and heartbreak along with her, while trying to keep my mind open to discover just what happens in this novel. The ending was unexpected and the entire book just so enjoyable; I will look forward to reading Nay’s other novel!

Clearly in the minority here. Whenever I start reading a 'hot new mystery of the moment' I'm always braced for clunky, unimaginative writing. I was therefore delighted by the first few pages of this - the writing was supple and clever, with several delicious turns of phrase that made me instantly optimistic. Unfortunately, the story was sorely lacking. It was a case of too many characters doing things without any obvious motivation, as well as the inexplicability of the instant closeness of the two main characters - there's no precipitating exchange of clever dialogue, no bonding event, just hey, his locker is close to hers, his house is close to hers, guess we're soulmates. I don't require main characters to be likable, and Angela isn't. The thing is, it's not at all uncommon for teen-agers to think that their tortured inner lives and travails are deeper and more important than anyone else's, but it's baffling when an author seems to think the same thing. The one thing that did make an impression on me was the rendering of Angela's parents. Overall, really disappointing.

This was a very fast, page turning read. If you enjoy psychological thrillers then you should read this, it was very entertaining. There are 2 reasons why I did not give it 5 stars: the main character and the ending. I really disliked the main character in this book and based on the ending I kind of feel like the author wanted me to dislike her. If you read the book I think you will understand what I mean.
