Another fun read in the series. An interesting FMC with characteristics that I think every women can see in herself. Always fun banter between the two MCs that Elsie writes, makes it so enjoyable to read and gives me a laugh.

9/10. I liked this book a lot. Elsie Silver is a pretty great writer because this is the second book of hers where I have fallen in love with the romance. Skylar and West do seem fated to meet and end up with each other, they compliment each other so well. Also, Skylar's connection to his kids, Emmy and Oliver, is so organic and beneficial to everyone involved. Skylar's transformation unlearning her coping skills from abuse and finally feeling safe was pretty cathartic to experience. However, West didn't seem as dynamic since he didn't really go through a transformation like Skylar. Overall, I enjoyed it but the few parts that I didn't really love involve spoilers. However, I am looking forward to the third book in the series.

One of the appeals of these type of romance books are the sex scenes since they add to the romance and tension. However, I really did not like the first two sex scenes in this book. I really couldn't get over the logistics and the physical dirtiness of having Skylar sitting on top of the truck hood during their first time having sex. Being outside in the open (on private property) if fine with me but I couldn't stop thinking about how truck's hoods are not flat and how it would be so difficult and uncomfortable for her to stay there. Also, as a anti-dirtiness person, I also couldn't stop thinking about how she had her bare privates and ass on the truck hood which is exposed to the elements and dirt kicked up from the ground. That kind of thing instantly takes me out of the sexy mindset. Then, the second time they have sex, she goes down on him in the middle of the horse training ring which again could not be comfortable or sanitary. I know I am a comfort queen and clearly very cognizant of cleanliness and that these things might not be dealbreakers for other people but they definitely took me out of not only the sexy mood but the book overall. I also did not like when West's parents showed up to "snoop," catching Skylar and West in an obviously post-sex daze is one thing but his dad saying that they saw the used condom and panties in the driveway is unnecessary and depraved. Lastly, I think that the break up ending and make up was unnecessary. It was inevitable that Skylar was going to leave to promote her new music, they didn't need to have her nudes leak and them genuinely break up. I'm not too pressed about it but I just thought it was an unnecessary complication. My biggest issue was the sex scenes.

Is it always the funny/ cheerful ones that carry a mountain of emotional trauma?

Swear, the way how the author described FMC I was mentally/ emotionally imagining Britney Spears if she was lucky enough to get away and be saved by Prince Charming. Unfortunately, Britney was not that lucky, but our FMC - Skylar, was. There was a lot to unpack, especially how Silver described child exploitation in the entertainment industry. At one point I was wondering if maybe she had some kind of inside information...

West, our MMC, is a dad. A fantastic dad who has a healthy relationship with his ex (a healthy co-parenting relationship).

The struggles our couple are going through while building their relationship are very real ones, if we could imagine how a single dad meets a famous singer relationship would look like. But, also, I think the same struggles are present in any relationship where one partner has kids from a previous relationship (there is always a fear of how a new person will affect the kids' lives).

Although there were a lot of heavy things to unpack, the book also brought a lot of fun and lighthearted moments. I laughed out loud and smiled wildly (I was a person of interest in my household while listening to the audiobook). And, yes, all the praise goes to two fantastic narrators: Teddy Hamilton and Savannah Preachwood, and to the fantastic Alyssa Brigiotta, who wrote and performed two songs.
