I am so glad this book exists. It lays out things that I learned during my ten years working in a corporate setting. It's great for those who are neurodivergent, first generation, immigrants, people who haven't watched their families in offices.

I found that this book had a lot of great basic tips but it was a bit too basic for someone just three years into their career.  I think I would have gotten more out of this fresh out of college. Some of the figures felt not very useful too. I did learn some good strategies and also reinforced some things that I picked up on my own over the years.

As a first generation college graduate now working in corporate America, I cannot recommend this book to students and new grads enough. Gorick tells an incredible story with real life examples that make you feel heard and seen in ways that I never had before. Wow this book is a really great fit for fresh graduates, as someone who is fairly early in their career I still found benefits. I have learned so much from this book!

Very much aimed at people in a very corporate setting, some things may be useful in more relaxed settings, but it would be overbearing in a small business.

Finally a self help book with all the key takeaways listed right at the beginning and every page is filled with practical advice. Personal anecdotes and real examples are kept to a minimum and only used to help explain a point. He even has fill in the blank examples for practical application.

Would have loved to have had this book when I first started my career but there's a lot of good advice here that I plan to share with my interns and other entry levels.

This is a good book for people starting their career. Very basic, but knowledgable tips. Love the charts. Love the fill-in scripts. I will definitely come back to certain sections of this book throughout my career.
