Autoboyography is a young adult romance set in Utah. Concerning Sebastian and Tanner, they meet when Tanner signs up for the Seminar – a class in which the students must write a book in 4 months, and a class which Sebastian took the previous year and now tutors thanks to the fact he sold the book he wrote for it. Tanner is instantly infatuated by Sebastian, and finds... read the full review here: https://www.amybucklesbookshelf.co.uk/2021/08/autoboyography-book-review/

Emermygawd! It’s way past my bedtime but I couldn’t stop reading this book and just had to share it with you!!!

In the acknowledgments, the authors share how they shouldn’t have a favorite book of theirs, but they do, and this is it! And I totally get it!!!

These were the ladies that also wrote “Holidaze” which I thought was a wee bit cheese ball, but a nice palate cleanser after the emotional roller coaster that was “Know My Name”.

This book. This one right here. Not cheese ball. It was awesome!

Ok. In a nutshell. Bi sexual teen boy living in UT ends up falling madly in love with a Mormon boy (young adult - they are both 18+) The heart ache and the emotions and boy howdy, the passions of young love! And some laugh out loud moments too.

This was a pure treat! Of course, I highly, highly recommend!!

We love a bisexual MC. We love processing religious trauma. We love taking the mormons down a peg. This book is a lot of things I love. Was it the best book I ever read? No. But it was cute and it knew what it was. Pretty easy read to finish in a day

I actually did like the start of the book as it gave me some insights on Mormon religion but the main character was just too immature once he confessed. He keeps expecting more. It was just too irritating to read.

I’ve seen a few amazing reviews going around for this book and so decided to finally pick it up this month and to say I loved it would be an understatement. It was so good I’ve already read it twice and each time I spent at least five minutes hugging the book before I put it down. A lot of people go on about that one book or series that spoke to them and that though they have lots of favourite books that one stands out above them all and I’ve just found mine.
This book follows the story of Tanner, a bisexual living in a prominently Mormon city, throughout his last semester of high school where he and his best friend Autumn are taking The Seminar a class where they have to write a book in four months. This year though, Sebastian, one of the students from the previous year, who is preparing for his book to be published, is helping out the class. Tanner feels an immediate attraction to Sebastian but Sebastian just happens to be the Bishops son.
I adore the characters in this Tanner is amazing I loved his narration and I related to him and his experience of bisexuality so much. I love how supportive Tanner’s family is and how involved they are in his life, though I wish we had met his Aunt Emily and her wife instead of them just being mentioned throughout the story. Sebastian needs to be protected at all costs. I absolutely loved his character and watching him struggle to accept himself while his religion and family are telling him that the way he feels is wrong broke my heart. I also really like the relationship between Tanner and Autumn their friendship can be complicated at times but at its heart all they want is for each other to be happy.
I absolutely adore the relationship between Tanner and Sebastian. It’s pretty insta-lovey but this is one of the few occasions where I loved it too much to care. It’s so sweet and beautiful and I liked that even their teacher was rooting for them.
The bisexual representation within this book is amazing. There were so many moments within this book where I just felt like yelling YES!! as I could relate so much to the way Tanner felt and there were so many quotes where I was just like “this describes exactly how I feel.” Before going into this book I didn’t really know anything about the Mormon Community so I can’t comment on the representation but I learned a lot about their way of life and beliefs and I came away feeling a lot more educated on their religion.
Overall, this book is amazing I loved everything about it and I couldn’t recommend it enough. It resonated with me on such a deep level.

I loved this book so much, and I will never be the same because of it. Such a beautiful love story!

I love this books so much this is my third time reading it!
Here are some of my favorite quotes from this amazing book
1. “This feels like a big deal”
This makes me laugh. “It is a big deal. I’m describing how my hear beats. (Tanner and Autumn when he comes out to her) page 238

2. ‘But if a tree falls in the woods, maybe it makes no sound. And if a boy falls for the bishop’s closeted son, maybe it makes no story.’ (Tanner) page 319

3. ‘What kind of idiot was I to start a book about writing a book and assume the ending would be happy.’ (Tanner) page 340

4. ‘To think god loved the trees, his brain phrases from a book he read once, but condemns that blossoming thing they do in spring’. (Sebastian) page 353

Loved this exploration and portrayal of the LDS faith in the presence of our increasingly open and progressively Queer world

i don’t even know what to say except that i absolutely loved this book. whenever i had to stop reading to do something else, i just kept thinking about when i’d be able to continue. i can very much relate to sebastian’s situation which made it seem all the more real to me and i loved the hopeful but open ending. one of my favorite books i’ve read this year, for sure.

A review I left on GR in 2018 when I first read this :
I was recommended this book by a follower and because it had been on my to read shelf for quite a few months, I decided to buy it thanks to a gift card from my boss(es). I was a bit unsure from the sample I read but I went for it anyways and I'm SO glad I did. This book is funny and candid and heartbreaking and uplifting all at the same time. It's such a good discussion of the intersection between sexuality and religion, both the accepting sides and the homophobic sides. It discusses bisexuality with an open mind and depicts the draws and repellants of organized religion with raw honesty. It's both extremely supportive and at times very hard to read because a lot of people go through what Sebastian goes through in the book. Autoboyography was wonderfully immersive and at many points, painfully relatable. Easily one of my favourites for a long time to come.
