It was fun to re-experience this book in my read-through. This book is a fun time, but I remember loving the next two more (we shall see if that still stands). Still you have magic, animals, mystery, and shapeshifting! What you got in book one carries over here and it's still very good.

This was a nostalgic re-read of a favorite series from my early teens. I definitely can’t say anything objective about these books, but I still enjoyed them and have to give five stars for that.

I didn’t love this as much as the first. I feel that this (4 book) series could have been better as a duology. This second book served to basically explain her powers and the magic system. But it is a sort of cozy writing style and I can see it being enjoyable as a YA. If you’re an adult it’s probably just going to be an easy read.

Re-Read Rating: 3 stars

Definitely much weaker than the first book, but still enjoyable. Plus the introduction of Tkaa who I adore. While the weakest book in the series, it’s still a solid adventure.

I liked this even more than the first book, the contained area for the plot and the theme of nothing being black and white really worked in this one

Still as fantastic a book as the first time I read it many years ago, but I probably enjoyed it more when I was closer to Daine's age. :)
