I started re-reading this Immortals series so I'd be prepared for Tempests and Slaughter and I'm so glad I did. Daine is still my favorite of the Tortallian leading ladies, perhaps due to a desire to have her powers, but most definitely because of her strength and devotion to her animal friends, even if it makes her feel silly and/or foolish sometimes. Ms. Pierce truly has a knack for writing relatable and charming characters and teaching valuable life lessons almost without the reader even realizing she's doing so (which is incredibly important for a teenage audience).

Cats aren’t special advisers. They advise us all the time, whether we want them to or no.
Daine is summoned by the wolf pack that she used to run with to help them out with a problem. That being the people of fief Dunlath are cutting down trees, scaring off all the game, and poisoning the lake. But the people of Dunlath are doing more than just destroying the natural habitats.
Daine learns more about her powers. It's also really cool to see the dynamic of the wolf pack. Numair isn't in the book as much, but its cool to see Daine on her own. Reread.
Always been my least favorite of the series. Still grateful for comfort reads though.

I am trying to find more books for my young book worms... I think my 7 yr old will like this series a lot because he's all about animals and enjoys fantasy.
