No review I write would do this book justice, so I'll just say this: This book broke me open and healed me in equal measure. As a fellow queer survivor I cannot thank you enough for these words, Anna-Marie McLemore.

If you are a survivor, this one may be particularly hard to read. I myself have never experienced being physically assaulted, and one scene in particular made me sick to my stomach. My mentioning of this scene and how it made me feel is in no way intended to be a critique of the author - if anything, the scene is necessary not only to the story line of the book, but to start discussion about sexual assault of queer people and male-identifying people. I'd recommend proceeding with caution, whether you are a survivor, know someone who is a survivor, or are reading this book as someone who has not experienced sexual assault.

This book is a necessary one. It's one that tells a story you don't hear often. Graciela, a pansexual Latinx girl, and Lock, a white boy discover that they were sexually assaulted at the same party, the two form a friendship, but a secret between them may tear their whole world apart. Loosely based on their own experience, Anna-Marie McLemore writes as beautiful a story as one can, given the heavy topic at its center. As previously mentioned, it's an important and necessary book that will stay with me for a long, long time
