This book was all the tropes & elements I usually enjoy. Series long story arcs, Romantic Suspense, opposites attract, and add in a baby. Yet somehow it was merely OK. I did listen to the whole thing and was somewhat intrigued by the story, however it felt off. The conversations were... odd. The way Noel & Adeline talked to each other was completely different than their inner musings and conclusions. They would spend a lot of time talking about nothing, yet coming to the conclusion they knew each other really well.

There’s also some things that weren’t established well like
Spoiler near the end supposedly Addy had known Brent for years and they were good friends who saw each other regularly, but at the beginning he’s made to seem like a one-time-date-gone-bad.

The sex scenes: I enjoy listening to/reading anything from closed door to erotica - so I’m not squeamish nor do I demand super steamy/graphic from my books. However, these scenes were boring and perfunctory.

I’m mildly interested in the series story arc, but not enough to keep going.

Narration:
I borrowed this from the library because I was trying to give the much-lauded narrator Jason Clarke another try. I liked his voices for the characters during dialogue - but his standard narrator voice just doesn’t work for me.

Listened to almost half....wasn't impressing me. When the first sex scene was over I was like, wait, what? Oops, we just had sex and we didn't know what we were doing? That was not believable.

This was a pretty good book by Marie Harte. It took me a little while to figure out what was going on with all the characters but once I did man the suspense. I liked how in the end he kept the baby but still wanted to find out where he came from but decided to raise him together with Abby. I enjoyed this book.

So so. Spice 2/5. I kind of want to continue the series, but not 100%

I really enjoyed meeting Noel in this new series by Ms. Harte. He was so formal and contained...until he wasn't. And Addy is fascinated by him. When a baby is dropped off on his doorstep, Noel rolls with it. It gives Addy a chance to see beneath his contained exterior. And it gives Noel a chance to see there is more to life than work. I loved the interaction between Noel and his friends. They aren't quite sure they are "real" friends as opposed to colleagues, but with the question of paternity and danger stalking them, they will find out. This story is well written. It is full of humor, passion and love. I cannot wait to see where Ms. Haret will take us next in this exciting new series.

Was looking for a romance to rent from the library on my phone and they don’t have very many. This was objectively horrible.
