This is 3 and a half stars. I really loved it and then there was just one coincidence too many by the final 20 pages of the book. But other than that drawback, I cared and was committed to each of these characters and very much enjoyed how the bulk of the story took place in 24 hours. Still would recommend, but I'm such an unabashed Patchett fan, maybe take that with a grain of salt
Ann Patchett is just such a solid, interesting writer, and this book is no exception.

Ann Patchett never disappoints. Love her writing.
This book takes a little time to get into because it jumps around both chronologically and with character vantage points. The writing is solid and there were several key phrases I enjoyed, one in particular was "newly minted orphan." The words and emotions of the characters ring true.
I liked this book...until I got to the very end. I did not care for how the author wrapped the book, similar to the series finale of Dawson's Creek: it jumps a head many years and I feel that I was somewhat cheated. I wouldn't have minded the book being a little longer to make up for what I feel is an oversight.

Undecided on this one, but Patchett's descriptions of running are beautiful.
The plot was a bit too contrived - maybe one too many twists / double meanings, but still enjoyed the snapshot of the difficulty of family reconciliation
