Wanted to love it but really didn't like the main character. Also, I guess I'm to old to understand social media obsession like this? A miss for me.

I am very very ambivalent so gots to do some dividing here.

Positives:
Love to see stories of queer joy rather than constant struggle and misery! I like that the transphobia is so minimal, that kids can get to read about trans people not being constantly harassed. The absence of sex and virginity plot lines is also a nice change of pace, since that's something a lot of teen and queer media put a massive focus on. It's not anti-sex or pushing abstinence, it’s just not about sex, other than parents and siblings advocating safety.

This book could be enjoyable and sweet if you're in your tweens and just want some good representation. A lot of trans media focuses on people far along in their transition and the pain that often comes with being trans. Here we see a boy who has just come out and is still getting a hang of things. There's a supportive older sibling and overall a lot of kindness and acceptance.

Negatives:
I wish I liked Noah more. He is an infuriating protagonist that significantly impacts the reading experience. It’s kind of like [b:What If It's Us|36341204|What If It's Us (What If It's Us, #1)|Becky Albertalli|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1526557760l/36341204._SY75_.jpg|57912876], where the love interest is lovely and I want it all to be about him, but the protagonist is quite unlikable for a large part of the book. Noah is that but worse.

The plot feels repetitive and drags. I can absolutely appreciate a slice of life story and a classic trope, but this is a tad too much. Although it's a cosy audiobook, I doubt I would have gotten through it as a paper copy.

dnf @ 66% - God the main character is so fucking annoying. I wanted to like this book so bad but he’s so unlikeable and the plot is so stupid

I'm rating it one star for now solely because one star reviews get the most attention. I'm actually really enjoying the book but I have a question: am I wrong for Noah calling feminine people femmes not really sitting right with me? It just feels very degrading but I'm not transfem so I don't know what to think about it.

I'm so disappointed.
I was super excited to pick this book up. There's some great rep and a super interesting sounding plot, too. And it has fake dating! I'd just read my first fake dating book a little bit before and though it was sort of disappointing, I was excited to read another one!

And I'd just like to say that there are some really good things about this book. I mean, the representation first of all, especially of neopronouns, was amazing! Also, I loved Devin, e are just so awesome and nice.
But the rest of it....
Honestly, a lot of the other reviews here say my thoughts exactly, but I will try to write my own.
First of all, the Diary itself. It didn't make sense.
From what I gathered, every single one of these stories was set in Miami. Given that Noah was actually going to places to try to get plot for these stories (eg going to an ice cream store and 'forgetting' his wallet so that someone goes and brings it to him), all these stories were about people who are trans male and m/m romances? And Noah didn't get one person asking to submit a story to him that entire time? How could the readers, who he had thousands of and from all over the US and possibly the world, believe that there are only people submitting stories from Miami and and only m/m trans male romances?

Also, yeah, Noah was a jerk.
So, he definitely gets some character development over the book, but it's really not much and he's still really immature at the end. There are so many times when people do a lot of things for him and he just groans, or when something bad happens to someone else and he just complains about himself.
Especially like him getting a job. He hated having to work at all for any amount of time and just seems to expect that people will...give him money? For free? Without him working or anything?

Okay there's a lot of reviews out there that explain other things but these were the things that really stood out to me so those were the things I wanted to point out.
