i’m giving this book a 4.75, there was poc rep & trans/gay-lesbian/ace rep, it felt very inclusive & the overall story was adorable, it was quite predictable but like, obviously, this would definitely be a comfort read for me later on, i really did enjoy this story a lot it’s super light & fun and just overall a good time, i also listened to it on audiobook which was nice as well :)

I know I’m not the target audience for this, but I didn’t like it at all.
The main character was really whiny and didn’t learn a THING - like 0 character development… What?! The side characters were awesome and I really liked getting to know them!
The audiobook narrator didn’t do it for me either, which I think contributed to my genera dislike for the book, which is a bummer. I really wanted to like this, but it didn’t do it for me :(

The main character felt dry and like the only personality trait was the diary and making it out to be “i have the best life!!11!1! lemme prove you all wrong”. which i understand is part of the plot.. but it just gives me an ick

The only reason that I didn’t give this book 1 star is goodwill. I want more queer/trans romances, as part of the community, and I also realize that I am not part of the target demographic for this book as an adult, but I also cannot give this book a higher rating for both my own stats on this app and my inability to in good conscience recommend this book to others.
First and foremost, Noah, the main character in this novel is unbearable. There is no character development for him or the other characters really. People keep saying that Noah is flawed and should change, but he never actually does, and it makes reading this book so frustrating.
This book is also riddled with plot holes. The basic premise is flawed. If the Meet Cute Diary has 50k followers at the beginning of the novel, how have NONE of them ever submitted a story of their own—fake or otherwise? There’s no way that every story Noah was posting had to be made up, unless the message is that trans meet cutes don’t exist outside of creative writing. Similarly, if the stories are supposed to be submitted, how could Noah be held responsible for one of the stories being plagiarized? I know that the internet can be irrational—and I actively use tumblr, so trust me, I know—but I just couldn’t get over this.
I should also mention the pop culture references that are quickly becoming dated already, but that, to me, is a much smaller issue than everything else.

I still find Noah to be quite a frustrating protagonist but enough of the other characters are charming enough to help make up for it. Overall I’d give it a 2.5~2.75 but rounding up because I feel this is a YA book I would have enjoyed more back when I was the target age range.
