Cinematic and atmospheric writing. A compelling story and characters. I was transported.

Yet I wished for something more at the end. Maybe it's me being so used to definite happy endings. This is more open-ended.

I kinda love that Maryanne never returned and the mystery of Violet's father remained.

I'm bored and I don't care about the characters or the story. I've got far too many books to read to try to push through something I'm not enjoying. I might come back to it at a later date but I have my doubts.

Very good book with otherworldly fantasy, and doors to other places. A family curse looms over the main character and must find a way to break the constraints of the distant past
