I was incredibly lucky to win a signed copy of this book from the Publisher, New Dawn. Thank you so so much.

I. LOVED. IT!

What a kick butt debut! Madeline’s writing was cinematic, the action scenes painted so vividly in my head. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was right up my alley with a snarky, strong female lead, Fae and an interesting magic system.

But can I just say… the ending!! Maddie, you ripped out my heart and sucked out my soul like a Life-Thief! What a huge twist, it was definitely something I didn’t see coming.

I spent a good chunk of this book thinking it was about vampires. I’m still not sure.

I wish I could love this book. Genuinely. It’s got such an amazing premise but overall I found it grating. There was no chemistry between the FMC and MMC at all and she just follows him into another country with exactly zero backgrounds checks. I can what the author wanted to do and what she wanted Tellium to be, but reading this book felt flat. There wasn’t any chemistry between any of the characters and it often felt like Tellium was 2 seperate people. The first being funny and sarcastic, the second being dark and gloomy and traumatised.

I really liked the twist but everything else in the book let me down. Like her powers are ridiculously OP and aren’t even described properly. I don’t know how the author is going to drag this out for multiple books if I’m being honest.

I don’t know how this got through so many rounds of people in a publishing firm but they’ve really let her down and I’m so upset for the author.

Oh my god
This was one of the best fantasy books I’ve read in a long time
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Tanya Schneider and it was absolutely amazing
Tanya really brought the whole story to life and made it really easy to fall into this world
It was beautifully written and completely engaging
Telium is a beautiful character and it’s just so much fun

Madeleine really killed it with this one and I can’t wait to read the second book!

This book… what an EXPERIENCE?!!?!
So I thought I knew where it was going, and I did except it still ROCKED ME.

Madeline’s writing is fantastic! The perfect mix of whimsical description, and straight-to-the point plot. The romantic sun-plot was enticing without overruling the story.

The beginning was a lot - you are thrown into the story and just need to pick it up as you go but it makes for a fast paced start which is refreshing.

The magic system was totally unique, and the blend of mortal/Fae realms was executed seamlessly.

I have quite literally never read another FMC like Telium. She is the most bad ass, morally grey FMC with perfect amount of feminine rage I have ever read.

Cannot wait for book 2 this year!!!!!

This book really pulled me in from the first chapter. I couldn’t put it down. I was so scared to start, because I just knew there would be a cliffhanger and I wasn’t sure I was emotionally equipped to suffer through that, so it sat on my bedside table for 3 months. I was a little worried I wouldn’t get into it due the narration POV the story is told in, but it was done so well that I was able to move past that.

The world building was beautiful, it was easy to visualise as I read, and the story line was great. I was happy to see homage paid to LGBTQI+ and POC, and I truly hope that these characters are brought back bigger in the next book. Telium is perfectly morally grey and I loved that. She was strong enough to survive with no man or fae to help her and that’s so refreshing to see. I loved that they came to her for help, versus needed a MMC to help “save” everyone. Teli has fast become one of my favourite FMC. Mallux was written well, and if it wasn’t for my penchant for SJM books, I would have been more shocked at the character twist at the end.

I found the love triangle predictable, but I still was 100% down for it. It gave Feyra/Tamlin/Rhysand vibes, and I predicted the plot twist off the back of this - was I disappointed I got it right? No. I was still metaphorically on the edge of my seat reading those last few chapters and when I tell you I am MAD not knowing what happened to her powers! The cliff hanger ending is always appreciated, despite my emotionally instability to survive while waiting, and really build’s anticipation for the next book. I will be not so quietly waiting the new arrival.

A great debut novel, and one I would happily read again and again.
