I put this book on hold so long ago that I didn't remember why it was so hyped. This was a fun read and I read it in about a day. It's a combination of Dexter and The Housemaid, plus the tease of dark romance (though the FMC only dreams that the MMC will join her in her hobby, and there isn't any spice).

saw the ending coming, feel it was slightly rushed however easy fun read!

This is my first audiobook in decades. I picked a book I had read before, so thankfully I remembered  the plot reasonably well, because I found it hard to concentrate, and sometimes wasn't sure who was supposed to be speaking right now.

The story is about a female serial killer who started at 12 years of age with her Stepdad who was a paedophile. No wonder she is damaged but putting a little dog into danger just to get close to a man she doesn't even plan to kill really didn't endear me to her. The story is a bit convoluted, with her love interest Jon being a true crime podcaster who managed to catch a serial killer and is then kidnapped by another one.

There is lots of dark humour but I felt it was too much about podcaster Jon who seems to be catnip for serial killers and not enough about Saffy getting rid of bad men.

This was a pretty good dark comedy. A definite “good for her” serial killer story, with
a ridiculous happy ending, of course with some soft foreshadowing that everything won’t end up perfect in the end.

One thing that was a little off to me was the point of views in the different chapters. Most of the time it was third person, with a focus on either of the characters actions. But somewhere along the line it switched to first person and it just seemed a little disjointed. And then, of course, for our main character, I feel like she was a little too obsessed with a love interest, who honestly didn’t seem all that spectacularly, uniquely great.
Otherwise, a pretty fun read if you’re looking for a murderer you can root for 😂

Saffy is a socialite, who also happens to be a serial killer, who also happens to have a big crush on a true crime podcaster.

it’s witty, fun, dark humor and there are a lot of twists and turns, overall a really fun read but it just ended too quick.

I wish we had more insight into Saffy, it’s supposed to be about her but I feel like most of the POVs were from Jon and then it’s all solved in 4 chapters or less after spending the entire middle of the book focusing on their budding romance so just wish there was more focus on the murders and threats.

Thank you so much to Abrams and Netgalley for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Bad Men follows female vigilant serial killer, Staffy, as she falls for and maybe slightly stalks Jon, a true crime podcaster. Staffy starts her life being abused by and accidently on purpose killing her stepfather. She then grows up to find abusive (or 'bad') men and disposes of them. Poor Jon attracts serial killers like no one has ever seen before. Blame it on his exploitation of murder but Jon finds himself solving one serial murder, being befriended and later almost killed by another, being abducted by one who happens to be his biggest fan and last but probably most important, falling in love with one.

I found myself absolutely captivated by this book. When I first got the ARC I checked out the ratings and it made me a little nervous to start because it was pretty low so I thought I would find plot holes and poor writing but after finishing this book I can definitively say the internet got it wrong on this one. There isn't emotional depth or heartbreaking plot point but it's fun and amusing and what more do you need from a book. I was genuinely rooting for Staffy for most of the book- didn't love the dog bit but it certainly served to remind the reader that she is not a good person. This is absolutely peak morally grey. I also loved the woman being the murderer because have probably read about 100 books where the male is and he uses that to save the poor helpless girl. None of that here. Staffy is not a woman who needs saving and in her own way she does care about people. She kills bad men after all.
