Good fun, just like Magpie Murders. I preferred that one though. But this was well worth reading.

DID NOT FINISH

DNF. The book started out alright (not amazing, but I wanted to know whodunit) but when I realized I was in for a whole book-within-a-book I ran out of patience. Wasn't enjoying the story enough to do a whole other just okay story in the middle of a just okay story.

This was an enjoyable mystery. The form is unusual,  the core of the novel is a detective novel, which contains a clue to solving the mystery of the sections before and after it, making up the book as a whole. It works well, though does have the disadvantage that the book is very long (over 500 pages).

I've been binging Anthony Horowitz mysteries so gettting to the point where it's hard to rate them.  They are all enjoyable, but this one did not stand out above others.

“It felt strange. I was about to read one murder mystery while sitting inside another.”

Absolutely phenomenal!!!! I love this series so much and truly hope there is a third installment in Susan Rylands/ Atticus Pünd stories. They give me so many Agatha Christie vibes.
