3.5 -- which is interesting to me since I really didn't care for the main character. :)

Having been a big fan of Me Before You and really enjoying Last Letter from Your Lover and The Girl You Left Behind, I was eager to seek of more book by Jojo Moyes and found one of her earlier works Peacock Emporium. Sadly, this does not come close to being as good at the others. There are flashes of what she's capable of, but it gets lost along the way. The primary problem for me is that the main character Suzanna has got to be one of the most unsympathetic people in the whole story. She is selfish, immature, unpleasant, and just plain annoying. Most of the supporting cast doesn't help much either with the exception of Vivi and Jessie. I'll still read other books by Moyes, but may just stay away from some of the earlier books.

In true fashion to Moyes writing, this was a winding love story, intertwined with friendship and self-discovery. I enjoyed the transitions to different times and countries, giving more character background and development. It was good enough, however, this was not a book that I felt drawn to sit down and read compulsively, like some of her others.

Nope nope nope. At the 50% mark I contemplated quitting the book, but thought, “Surely these people will show some character development!”
They didn’t.
Yikes.

I really enjoyed this book; it was not like her Me Before You (and similar) books that I didn't really care for. This wasn't exactly the same but it was much more similar to a Rosamund Pilcher book and a little more complex in the character's interactions.
