I really enjoyed the weaving of past and present tales into one storyline. Solid read.

This book was so impactful, I thought it was beautiful. I loved it. I especially loved Hannie.

I really enjoyed this book the second time I read it. I read the first few chapters straight through, then decided to read the chapters on Hannie only. Her story is very exciting. Then I went back and read the chapters on Benny. I enjoyed her story as well. By continuing with each person separately, I was able to better keep track of characters.

I think Lisa does a good job at weaving the stories of the past and present together to form a deeper understanding of the history behind the plantations and the south.

I really loved the concept & the ending. Here and there it was a little unexciting for me, but I really think that was due to my mindset in the moment. Overall, I liked the book.
