Mary and her old friend Viscount Ashford enter into a fake courtship. What happens when their romantic feelings grow all too real?

Both Mary and Ashford are likable and kind, which made this book a pleasure to read. Mary’s sister is an atypical villain, giving this book a fresh feeling.

Thanks, Booksprout, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Viscount Ashford, the male lead, just needs a believable cover to keep his matchmaking mother at bay. Miss Mary Trenton, the female lead, never expected anyone to be genuinely interested in her and is happy to help the viscount as long as he helps her escape from her verbally and emotionally abusive sister’s house.

She knows she cares for him but she never believed she was a suitable match. He never thought he’d care for more but now she’s the only one he can imagine marrying.

This story is dual POV, well written, and a fun and funny read. I enjoyed the author’s style and the banter between all characters, not just the lead couple. I appreciated the secondary character integration, though I haven’t read others in the series and believe the story would have been enhanced if I had. I enjoyed both lead characters’ development and the relationship development, especially Mary’s growing independence and willingness to assert herself and Ashford’s active support of that independence.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
