Morrighan

Getting ready for another reread of the Remnant Chronicles, and I couldn't pass this one up. I loved the illustrations, and the glimpse into the beginning - although this beginning has a beginning to it too! The old world, which sounds like a modern world, seems to have erased with a great storm - that brought a plague? There's so much more that could have been delved into, but instead we find ourselves moving on, trying to find a new life in the remnants of the old.

Morrighan is tired of moving. Tired of her family being forced to flee when the scavengers attack. When hunger gnaws at her, her Ama tells her stories of before, of those who survived. How those who had the Knowing brought them to safety.

She meets Jafir a few times in their youth. A Scavenger boy who scowls and takes, but she can't stop herself from helping him. Even though her run-in with him is enough to mean they have to move again. It will be years before she sees him next, before the time when she doesn't tell her Ama about seeing him. When she learns his name, and she starts meeting with him more frequently. When something sparks between them.

But Scavengers only take. Can Jafir ever change his ways? Can Morrighan and her people be safe when they must always flee?

So excited to have this first glimpse into the legend, and I'm definitely ready to see what little insights it gives me on my reread.

Cost of her books but felt like countless plot holes and 1 dimensional characters were quite the turn off
