Woof. This was an unusual take on the story of Columbine, and it just felt icky to read. The chapters were long, which didn’t help. I will say I didn’t see the main plot twist coming until right up before it happened. I had to reread several times to make sure I understood it. I’m giving it 2.5 stars because the writing itself had parts that were lovely, and I can appreciate the craft that was used in jumping back and forth through time to lead up to the ending. If those things hadn’t been around to save this story, I would have rated it much lower. Woof.

As a longtime Picoult fan, I'd consider this heartbreaking book is one of her best. She has the ability to make you see things from perspectives you'd never thought to consider, but she goes a step further... She finds a way of making you empathize with characters you'd normally consider evil.
