This is my second time reading this book and I liked it a lot more this time then I did last time. I finished this book in one day where as last time I stopped reading and then started again and I think it took me at least a week to read it.

Okay, I guess I'm a sucker for a good redemption story or something (and didn't realize this until now, I guess) because I was rooting for Rephaim the whole time. Maybe that's why I like Stark so much too? Who knows.

But I do love Stark. Probably more than Zoey, to be honest. Which is partially why at the end when Nyx made Heath those choices I was angry, because I didn't want him back to interfere with Stark's relationship with Zoey in any way. Yet, I was also touched that he was willing to basically become a monster in a way to help Zoey.

(She better not break Stark's heart though or I'm tossing the book she does it in into a fire pit)

While I am enjoying the series, I also have to say it is a tad predictable. Despite being predictable, the plot is good. I kind of knew as soon as Stevie Rae and Rephaim imprinted that he'd end up turning into a human again at some point. I also knew as soon as I read the first sentence the White Bull said to Neferet to make her vessel that she'd go for Grandma, and I knew as soon as Linda's POV popped up and said she was going to Grandma's that it was going to be her instead (and I was sighing in relief that it was her instead too.)

Well, hope you've all enjoyed my rambling. On to the next one.

This is a Stevie Rae and Rephaim centered book, and again I think this was a pretty good idea. I like the way their story resolves, for the most part, and I think it was the most interesting thing currently going on in the series.
I'm glad that it wasn't dragged out to increase the tension, and the "forbidden romance" angle works pretty well for them.
The ending was also a pretty big shock when I was younger, so I think that was a good call to set up momentum for the next story.

While I enjoyed it, the ongoing saga of Neferet and Kalona feels stale.  Eight books in, the repetitive conflict lacks the spark of a fresh storyline.   The "White Bull" feels like an extension of Neferet's villainy, rather than a truly new threat.

The ageless Vampiric Council also fails to impress.  Their supposed wisdom is overshadowed by repeated poor decisions.

It's time to shake things up.   The core cast remains engaging, but a new villain and a fresh storyline could reignite the series'  intrigue.  Hopefully, future installments will deliver a more innovative plot while retaining the characters we've come to know.

If this was the first book in the House of Night series I would probably not keep reading. I don't get it. The first few books were really great but they keep getting sillier and sillier as the story progresses. Okay, to be fair, these are YA novels and I'm a thirtysomething woman, so I'm not exactly the audience they're going for here. I can actually see why teenagers would like these books. Heck, I'm still reading them, too. I do enjoy the characters and the story for the most part, but I keep hoping the books will get a bit better again. I'll probably still read the next ones since I've already invested this much in the series.

This book rocked; it was better than the last and i so cannot wait for the next one. And I cannot wait to see what will happen with Kalona.Totally. I hope Zoey kicks his immortal ass.
