I fell in love with Amanda Gorman's poetry when she spoke at President Bidens' inauguration and have been following her since. When I heard that she was releasing a book I was excited to get my hands on it.
I was not disappointed. This poetry collection is incredible. It covers love, loss, the pandemic, and the insurrection. It is at points hopeful, and at others angry. I was stunned after reading the poem titled 'Survey' as the inspiration behind it is so shocking.
All in all, Amanda Gorman has created a wonder, lyrical, and brutally honest collection of poetry that I would recommend anyone interested in society in America, or the perspective of young people of color should read.

Gorman was the first National Youth Poet Laureate, and deservingly so.

Beautiful.

Highly recommended listening to Gorman read the poems herself in an audiobook version.

I don't read much poetry, but I liked this. It was a little jarring to read poems about the pandemic, but I appreciated how she tied them into the 1918 outbreak. She is extremely talented and I'm looking forward to what she does next!

Absolutely loved this collection of poems which depict the world during the pandemic (both in 1918 and 2020) and after. Beautiful words so intricately interwoven to bring forth the heart and soul of the poet and the people. I will keep and carry these words with me.

Absolutely beautiful and breathtaking words and imagery. I loved the inventive word play. This book is one best savored a few poems at a time. I can tell I will revisit it to reread many many times.

This book will make you want to read more poetry.  Truly outstanding.   It took me over a year to finish the book because each poem, each line makes you sit and thing.  Almost all of it is set during the pandemic, and is a meditation on what we faced.  Would this be as impactful to those who did not live through COVID? Probably would because she brings in so many timeless themes.  It may not hit the same to hit everyone, but the poems will hit you. So well done.

I am not one to normally enjoy or be moved by poetry, but I found myself feeling so much when reading Amanda's poems. The descriptive narrative and creative word play throughout invokes memories of emotions felt when it was written. Some poems felt much more impactful than others, but the ones that hit hit me hard.
