I once heard someone describe Stephen Adly Guirgis, as “David Mamet, if David Mamet were good” and nowhere is this sentiment more apparent than in Between Riverside and Crazy. The characters have all the hallmarks of a Mamet character, excessive profanity and character flaws, but unlike in a Mamet, Guirgis makes sure that you can’t help living his characters, a feat Mamet could never accomplish.

Dark, but funny. Unpredictable. This is another one of those shows that I can't picture (in general, I'm terrible at picturing sets based on a script), and it also suggests there is a dog and sex on stage. How will this be pulled off? Not sure, but can't wait to see it! If you like Topdog/Underdog by Suzan Lori-Parks, you'll like this one.

Listening to it was more entertaining, but not enough to make much difference in my rating.

This won the Pulitzer for Drama? Seriously? I've enjoyed previous Guirgis plays, but this was just a mess. I am assuming the only reason it won is because they were reluctant to give it to him for 'The Motherfucker With the Hat', which was a much, MUCH better play.
