Everything and the Moon by Julia Quinn
Seven years ago she broke his heart...
When Robert Kemble stumbles across Victoria Lyndon in hedgerow maze, he can't believe his eyes. The girl who'd torn him in two, who let him plan on elopement and then left him standing by the side of the road, was suddenly within arm's reach, and even though his fury still knew no bounds, she was impossible to resist...
I was bought this 'series' as a Christmas present and I am finally getting around to reading it. Before you start, this is not like the Bridgerton series - nor is the writing as polished but nevertheless it is an enjoyable book. My favourite part was the love at first sight section in the beginning and then there are a lot of obstacles in the path of Robert and Victoria. For me, this was a cute story that gets off to a slow start.
Rating 4/5

I tried to read this in 2019, got to page 146 and just gave up. I'm not one to dnf books but man I wasn't enjoying myself at all reading this. It felt like it was written by a 12 year old with no concept of... anything, really. The characters have no personality, nothing, they're just two people who meet one day and literally start saying they're in love. Like, five minutes after they meet. And maybe I should have read the synopsis, but I do think any trope can be done right. This wasn't.
At first I couldn't tell where this was going, but then there was the timeskip and Robert just became the worst love interest I've ever had the displeasure of reading. All he did was boss Victoria around, insult and belittle her, even though she was clear the whole time she didn't want anything to do with him. Honestly, I don't think this forceful, aggressive insistence is romantic in any way. It's creepy and so goddamned infuriating I just wanted Robert to randomly die just so Victoria could get on with her life. Not that she was that great of a character, but at least she wasn't plotting out to destroy his life and jeopardize his only source of income so he would be forced to marry her. Robert did that, but that plot fell through so fast that at the point I stopped, he no longer wanted revenge and was just in love with her and wanted to marry for real instead. Honestly... why? Just... why?
I skipped to see what the end was like, and it ended as predicted, but I have no clue how it could possibly go from where they are to the end in so little time, and I have no desire to find out. I don't have time to waste on books I'm hating.
Edit: read some reviews and found out it! Gets! Worse!!!! Glad I decided to drop this lmao.

Maybe enemies-to-lovers just isn't my thing, but I hate how very antagonistic they are towards each other. I would never want to be with someone who was capable of being so mean to me.
this book BAFFLES me. it’s basically perfectly designed to make me hate it - it has every cliche and trope that drives me crazy - and i’m somehow obsessed with it?? it’s such a poorly aged mess. i read it twice in a week.

I did not like these characters and their constant bickering. I didn't believe the romance and probably would have DNF'd except I have faith in Julia Quinn. So glad this was not the first book of hers that I read!
