Absolutely gorgeous.

Pre-Edwardian fantasy that’s not for me. Descriptive writing that was a chore to get through, with very little happening and not much development of female characters. They also hunt unicorns - I’ll pass.

This is a pretty boring read, but well written. It's still short enough to not be the sloggiest slog, but it sure tests that theory.

This was an interesting one. Written in the 1920s, the prose is quite a bit dated compared to what you've come to expect from modern fantasy. I mainly picked this up due to the likes of Tolkien quoting it as inspiration for The Lord of the Rings. It is an old fairytale about the mundane (earth) and the magical (Elfland) and their constant desire, but inability, to coexist told through the tug and pull of lovers, Alveric (from this world) and Lirazel (from Elfland). A nice reminder that finding a balance between having your feet on the ground and your head in the sky is important.
