A true classic of early fantasy literature. Such a shame it doesn’t seem to be very known to a wider audience today. The poetic style, elegantly executed, adds to the book something that is very hard to find in our contemporary fantasy literature. The dreamlike elements and all the vivid images of landscapes really do convey a compelling sense of otherworldliness.
I would have liked to give this book more than just a 3/5. However, the rich and descriptive prose seemed to carry the story at the expense of its accessibility. Highly descriptive stories are usually the hardest to follow, I’d say.
