I never thought I'd say this about a Suzanne Wright book, but I found this one boring. I'm giving it a three instead of a two because the last part of the book was up to her usual standard.
Fierce Obsessions is about Riley, a raven shifter who has come to live with the Phoenix pack, and Tao, the head enforcer for that pack. Tao is easily the least likable or interesting character in the previous books and he doesn't really come off any better in this one. He says he's an asshole and I agree. Usually he's just obnoxious, but when change or new people are involved he becomes an asshole. He's also really boring. Being obnoxious isn't really enough to carry a main character. We meet his parents, but we don't really get into his head unless he's feeling possessive or horny. I don't feel like I got much insight into Riley either. Maybe it was in the previous book, but I don't remember why she is so devoted to Savannah and Dexter or even how or when she found them.
The main problem with this book is that most of it was boring. Usually these books are very funny and the characters are very quick witted, but not in this case. I was really looking forward to Fierce Obsessions, but it didn't have the complexities that the other books have. There wasn't any technology issues (which were cool) or the human extremist issues (also interesting) or even any tension between the characters. This book starts the morning after they've slept together for the first time. We don't know how they fell into bed when they weren't really getting along before then. While there was some discussion about how they didn't really like each other at first, we never got to see how they got close enough to fall into bed. That would have made for a much more interesting book. As it is, I feel like I started from the middle of the story.
Do I recommend this book? Only if you've read the rest of the series and want to read it. It can be easily skipped for the next book, which will hopefully be as good as the last Phoenix/Mercury pack novel.

Really liked it, as I always do any of the Phoenix Pack books, but I did take issue with one small detail. At the beginning, Riley tells Tao that both her parents were only children, yet she has an uncle, Ethan, whom she clearly stated (mere paragraphs before), "Ethan-he's my mother's brother-...".! Doesn't having a brother mean you are NOT an only child?
I really liked how the book just jumped right in the story haha.
This has spoilers if you havent read feral sins and a little bit of a spoiler for Fierce obsessions

In this book Tao says that he has never even kissed Taryn. But that is bullsh*t. I dont get how the writer has forgotten about that whole 'gangbang' situation in Feral Sins. He did a lot more that just kiss her. But maybe the writer is like me and wanted to forget that that whole thing happened in Feral Sins.

Tao and Riley's Story: 4.5 Stars!
Suzanne Wright sure has a way with making opposites attract work in the best of ways. Tao and Riley both have very strong personalities. You wouldn't think they could work as a couple but they were the perfect compliment to each other.
I'm a big fan of this author because she brings me the dominant males I like to read about in my books but she's also very good at writing strong female role models. One's who not only handle the alpha male with finesse, but gives as good as they get. No doormat heroines with this author.
In previous books, you would not have thought to put this couple together. They seemed to not like each other, yet the transition from hate to lust to love was done smoothly and effortlessly.
I love when a couple can argue sensibly and not react in stupid ways. The way these two worked together made the story a fun read and so many great side characters to add to the overall enjoyment of the story. I can't wait for more! ARC provided by NetGalley.

Finally we get Tao's story. I really love that grumpy fucker and his little raven mate is wonderful. The only thing I wanna know now is WHEN DO WE GET DOMINCKS STORY, DAMNIT.
Riley and the kids are some of my favourite characters in this series. And I'm so glad Greta met Alan. I really wish we'd get even more of them

I loved this, the story line was amazing, and i loved both Tao and Riley!
They say the line is thin between love and hate... In Tao's circumstance this couldn't ring more true.... in alot of the books there always seem to be a stronger part of the couple to pull the other through, come to understand the bond and let them in... Riley is the more predominant to this circumstance but i loved how vulnerable Tao was to his feelings also.
I Couldn't get my head around a wolf wanting a bird...... the human couple yes, but bird and wolf never seen that on national geographic...... how would that work? this would have made more sense to me if they imprinted rather than true mates... But ok i still loved it.

Oh my god this was so freaking good! I was expecting to enjoy this but honestly this surpassed my expectations and I'm so indescribably happy.
Riley has been staying with The Phoenix Pack since the last book and while she's been enjoying her stay, she hasn't been getting along with one person: Tao. That is until she learns that Tao has been acting like an ass not because he hates her but because that's just his natural personality. He's a very straight up, no bullshit kind of guy and it's actually something that Riley really learns to appreciate. However, no matter how attracted she is to him, she's not really interested in letting Tao get passed her defenses and get to know her.
Tao, of course, wants to know every part of Riley and works overtime to knock down her walls.
I've been reading this series since the very beginning and I've always loved each and every one of the characters but Tao and Riley are now high up on my list of favorites. There was something about their chemistry that was just so alive throughout the entire book. I could feel it literally coming off the pages. It was one of those times where I wholeheartedly believed in their chemistry and love for each other; they are the perfect mates for each other. You know when you're reading a really good book and you're heart kind of squeezes and you get this giddy happiness because you love the characters and their romance so much and it makes you want to squeal with happiness? That's how I felt reading this book. It just worked for me on every level.
I loved learning more about Riley's old raven pack and it honestly left me very curious about them. I loved Lucy (Riley's bestie) and I loved that she had a Native American background; honestly it just makes me happy to see diversity in romance novels. I'd love to learn more about the pack, and I'd love to see Lucy again; perhaps she can end up with one of the males from the Phoenix Pack?
And speaking on the Phoenix Pack, it was so great seeing the gang again! I love how we got to see them as secondary characters and catch up but it didn't overwhelm the story or feel like it took away from Tao and Riley's story. It was just enough to remind me of how much I love these characters and how great of a series Suzanne Wright has written overall. She's written so many amazing characters and they shine through no matter how small screen time they get in the book.
Overall this book is full of steamy romance, action, suspense and even a little mystery that leaves you on your toes and eagerly reading on to find out more. No one writes werewolf romance like Suzanne Wright and I cannot recommend her books enough.

Enjoyed the female protagonist and didn’t expect the ending. Enjoyed this book enough.
