This is a very realistic, voyeuristic look at what happens to a grieving family. The plot is pretty slow moving and in general I prefer Woodruff's non-fiction writing.

Surprisingly enjoyable. A tender hearted story of family and surviving what life throws at you together - with those we love most.❤️

This book is about everything no one wants to live, much less read about. The drudgery of a dissatisfied life is on display here, in the most drawn out descriptions and reflections. You get all up inside the characters' heads, but you don't want to be, because it is boring there. Throw in some "secrets" that are quite commonplace in society, and what this book amounts to is a massive snoozefest.

This book was just okay. The story wasn't anything unique, the characters weren't that interesting and I think I will probably forget about it fairly quickly. There was nothing really wrong with the book, just nothing special.

About a quarter of the way though, I realized this was going to be a DNF. Why? This book felt a little as though the author was trying to work something out for herself, and there was a little bit of "kitchen sinking" (where the problems the four main characters are having are neither surprising nor terribly interesting, but put there because someone has to be having this sort of problem to make the plot go forward).

The loss of a child does cause major disruption in a family and in the interfamily relationships, and had the individuals been slightly less predictable it might have been a better book.

Wow, this just seemed to go on. Any build-up fell flat and was never expanded on.

I absolutely loved this book -- loss and resiliency, marriage and infidelity, secrets and forgiveness, generations and the passing of time.

A compelling, multi-generational family drama. I started it this afternoon and just couldn't put it down.
