Lovely read from someone who clearly has a passion for the natural life around her, as well as a keen eye. This is definitely a niche book and mostly interesting to me as a fellow naturalist who enjoys similar explorations in my own neck of the woods. Beautiful to read about more of the world’s wonders, although fairly dense descriptively so I took it slowly in small chunks (I think I took about 6 months from start to finish).

What a magnificent little book! I love that the curiosity, sense of wonder, and thirst for knowledge that the author has just oozes from the book. It's very focused on the Pacific Northwest, but to me, that's a plus since I live here. Very inspiring book, definitely makes me want to be more diligent about learning around the nature around me.

The author’s passion for her subjects is obvious from the first paragraph. The thing that makes this a good book is also the thing that makes it difficult to complete. The over abundance of detail. To a striving entomologist, the depth of dragonfly detail is probably wonderful. To anyone else? Maybe not so much so.
This is not a reference book that one would use to look up facts, so in the genre of nature literature, it’s difficult to define this book’s exact niche.
